First Place Prize, awarded to AIDAN BRADLEY after she submitted this V Day story:
When I was a little girl, my father brought me a huge heart shaped balloon with legs and arms every Valentine’s Day. I called them “heart people”. I adored them and they were all I ever wanted for Valentines Day as a little girl. Years later, my dad came home with other balloons and told me the place where he got the “heart people” balloons didn’t make them anymore. Speaking of heart people, my Dad has the biggest heart I know, and I knew even then that he looked EVERYWHERE in central Massachusetts for those heart people balloons.
Fast forward to my early twenties - dating someone who I thought was it. He adored me and we were madly in love with each other. I had mentioned this story when we first met but didn’t think much of it after that. He was in a band, and most of our Valentine’s Days were spent in a dirty night clubs (not my ideal Valentine’s Day). Five years ago, after leaving the nightclub, I was less than thrilled, my ears were ringing and my shoes were much too cute to be standing in them all night listening to Maroon 5 wannables gone bad, and to top it off my hair smelled like smoke. When we got home, I walked into his room and it was filled with rose petals and a big pink Victoria secret box, but all I could really see were the “heart people” balloons which were everywhere in the apartment. The smile on my face could have lit up New York City and I gave him the biggest hug. He looked at me and said “You have my heart, I love you”. He had traveled 3 hours and called over 100 balloon and flower shops to find them. Five years later, at 26 it is one the best of Valentines Day and most thoughtful things a boyfriend ever did for me.
Great story right?! You’re probably wondering if we’re still together. Ever hear the expression if you think its too good to be true, it probably is? Well, it was great for years, then horrible for years - he was too good to be faithful apparently. When I broke up with him, he assured me their band would make it big, and I’d regret this decision, and instead of Maroon 5’s “Songs about Jane”, his band would have “Songs about Aidan(me)“. I’m still waiting on that platinum album and my real “heart person” to sweep me off my feet
Aidan won a Valentine Filled Heart Box compliments of The Chocolate Truffle.

Second place winner LISA KIM sent us this story:
My boyfriend had scheduled a birthday dinner date on August 7, 2009 (my birthday is August 4). He told me to be ready for 5:30PM at my place. I got ready in only 15 minutes as I attended my brother’s defense thesis and nephew’s 2nd birthday shortly before the planned dinner. I dressed up quick in a red dress (he asked me to not wear my usual jeans and a tee shirt) and the doorbell rings. I pick up my dog Jack as he was barking like wild. The barking made sense when I realized the guy at the door was not my boyfriend but a man dressed in a tux asking for “Lisa Kim.” Oh-mi-gawd! That’s me! He was there to pick me up in a stretch limo. The driver rolled out a red carpet and had a champagne bottle on top of the limo. He opened the door for me and - tada! My boyfriend with a dozen roses! I was amazed and nervous! Good thing I dressed nicely! Then my boyfriend gave me the roses and started talking about our long journey so far - and next thing I realized at that moment was that August 7 was going to be our anniversary date! He proposed, and I was shaking and saying yes over and over. Aug 7 is like our own Valentine’s Day - the day of our first date, the day of our engagement, and now the day of our wedding-to-be.
Second Place includes:
A 60 minute Chocolate Massage compliments of Spa Newbury.

MALLORY BROWN is one of our third place winners thanks to this story:
I REALLY want to see this movie so here is my UNromantic Valentine’s Day… A couple years ago it was the first Valentine’s Day with my boyfriend. Seeing as how my birthday is a few days before Valentine’s Day I offered that we could have a low key Valentine’s Day at his apartment and we didn’t need to make it a big deal (meaning no 2 dozen roses, fancy expensive restaurant meal, and overpriced box of gross chocolates). My idea of a big deal was a little different than his…
I went low key, made some cookies, nice card, new lingerie. So he comes to pick me up, is late, calls me frustrated because he can’t find a parking spot at the florist near my house and says “I guess you’re not getting flowers.“ Then calls back 5 min later and says he found a spot and asks me “Do you still want flowers?“ Ummm obviously not now - sorry for inconveniencing you! So we go to his house and he is supposed to make dinner and we were going to watch Breakfast at Tiffany’s. He makes some pasta dish, we eat it at the coffee table and since of course his roommate happens to be home also, he invites his roommate to have dinner with us. So it is the three of us huddled over his coffee table eating pasta. Finally his roomate goes to his room so we start to watch the movie and my boyfriend decides he wants to stretch out so he lies down on one couch and leaves me on the other. Already pissed, I look over about 20 min into the movie - ASLEEP, he is sound asleep. Oh it was a low key Valentine’s Day alright. No flowers, no card, pasta at the coffee table with his roommate, a movie on separate couches and he falls asleep - oh the romance!
I was pissed he knows it. Last year was an improvement. And this year I had to straight out tell him I wanted romance - so we’ll see! Pick Me! (and I’ll make him go to the romantic movie of the year with me!)
