Happy Birthday Misstropolis

Email to a friendPrint this article

On March 7, 2007 Misstropolis went live to the world. Today, Friday, March 7 all of us here want to say a big fat Happy Birthday. You’ve come a long way baby, and you just keep getting better! (hmmm, wish I could say the same for my domestic abilities).

When each of my three girls turned one, I shed a few tears. I was sad they were getting closer to walking away from me, talking back to me and generally ignoring me like I did to my parents soon as I “grew up”. But with Misstropolis turning one, I’m all happy inside. We are one year young, already walking and talking and looking forward to taking over the world in the coming year. Seriously, think about all we have done in one short year, together.

We have advocated for and written about over twenty different charities. We have helped to raise money for many of them, and have worked hard to encourage more involvement in our communities. We have profiled many amazing women and connected even more. We’ve launched a podcast, The Tribulations of Paulette, which besides being a favorite on itunes, is being considered for a motion picture or television series. We’ve thrown events for yogis, fashionistas, women looking for career advice, and kids wanting to save the earth. We have covered the Oscars and sat in the front row at NY Fashion Week. We’ve had contributions from the authors of Restless Virgins, Ming Tsai, Henry Jenkins, Annie Copps, Barbara Lee and many others. Most of all we’ve had fun! We’ve pushed the envelope, refused to dumb down, avoided cliches and resisted gossip. (Imagine, despite all that, we are still alive).

In the coming year we will implement a massive re-design, evolving Misstropolis from a high-end online magazine to a high-end resource and community for women. Still full of the smart articles you have come to count on, we will just be adding features we heard you ask for in our focus groups and surveys. These include social networking capabilities and career networking, a Q&A column with our Style Editor Alisa Neely, a Fitness Directory with information about the best local fitness facilities, deals and discounts from top stores, cultural institutions and restaurants, and a calendar of philanthropic events and opportunities. And that’s just the beginning.

Happy Birthday Misstropolis - and THANK YOU loyal readers. We can’t keep growing without you!

Congratulations, I am so proud of you and all the hard work that you have done to see your vision through, it will only keep getting better.

Happy Birthday!  I guess that means I’m one year older too.  Bummer.  Really though, Robin and the team.. great job.

p.s. one more request - can your name/email come up automatically when you start typing it so we dont’ ahve to type the whole thing when we want to make comments?

Hey Carolyn, thanks for the note. One year older means one year better, and on and on each year like that - don’t forget it! I’ll have the web wizards look into your submissions question. Hopefully we can make things easier. Thanks! Robin
