Welcome to MAX@NIGHT

Socialite? Hobnobber? Mover-and-shaker? Debonair Metropolitan? However you describe me, one thing’s for sure – if something hot is happening in Boston, I’m there. My life in PR means I need to know everyone and everything that’s new and newsworthy. It means going out Sunday - Thursday nights from right after work to whenever I pass out from exhaustion, booze, or act of God. Weekend nights are reserved for recovering or acting like an actual human being—a “civilian,” as we call them.

Max@Night will bring you the inside scoop on where to be, what to wear and who to look for when you’re going out. It’s part social commentary, part Inside Track, a touch of Elinor Glyn, a good heap of Absolutely Fabulous, and just the right amount of industry dirt. I’ll cover the who, what, where, when, and why I wasn’t there of the Boston social scene - privileged information for Misstropolites only.

Over the last few years, the city has evolved from a desert of dive bars and dance clubs to a bastion of trendy lounges, sleek neighborhood watering holes, sophisticated restaurants and upscale martini bars. Even the location of nightlife is shifting; Lansdowne Street is transforming and the South End is drawing an increasingly larger share of the late night scene. There’s also a more laid back attitude about going out. You can start your evening at 6:00pm at the bar of your favorite restaurant, or jump out of bed at midnight and hit last call at a South End lounge.

Just like my social life, this will be a living document—we’ll see how things play, how you respond, and where I’m headed. I’ll break it down into three main parts:  1) “The 411” 2) “WHERE WAS I?” 3) “I CAN’T FIND MY DRINK.”

THE 411

What’s new, what’s happening, what’s now, what’s in, what’s with it.

Currently, the new buzz surrounding the bustling restaurant scene in Boston is questioning whether the South End is soooo over? I think not. With the inclusion of Coda Bar & Kitchen, Rocca, Gaslight, and the newest (aka just opened last night with the launch party) STIX Restaurant & Lounge (brought to you by the owners of 33), the culinary scene in the South End has never been hotter. But of course, we have so much else to explore… This column will catalogue every tantalizing and torrid detail.

WHERE WAS I?

“Why weren’t you there?” is the question every social butterfly dreads. Without going to every single benefit and being part of every magazine cover launch party, product roll-out, in-store soiree, exclusive intimate gathering or elite tasting, you can stay on top of the down and dirty by reading this. Max@Night will be there when you can’t.

Everyone who’s anyone has been hanging out at The Liberty Hotel recently - including William H. Macy who was staying there all week. From the uber fab STUFF@NIGHT 10 Year Anniversary party, to the official grand opening celebration, to the Improper Bostonian’s historic Re-Design party this past Monday, the celebutantes of Boston were captivated, literally and figuratively, by the Liberty. But insiders found out that apparently at the former Charles Street Jail, you don’t even get the customary one phone call. The swank new hotel may have caused an unsuspecting administrative assistant to have a nervous breakdown by screwing up the RSVP number on the invitation. Who knew a four star hotel would be more draconian than its former tenant: the CLINK?

I CAN’T FIND MY DRINK

This section will chronicle the best cocktails in town, who’s making them and where to find them. Libations will be the order of the day, along with inventive food pairings and fashionable promotions.

So there you have it, a tasty tidbit of what you can expect from

Cheers,
Max
