Boston Belles’ Must Haves for March

Email to a friendPrint this article

In like a lion, out like a lamb…isn’t that what they say about March?

Savvy New Englanders know better. It could just as well be the other way around. On any given March day you could wake up to face a lion or a lamb outside; and that makes it difficult to get dressed.

Thankfully there are some weather-resistant finds out there that will help you make it through the most inclement of March days while still maintaining your fab look.

Spot any sog-stopping threads yourself lately? Be sure to let us know. In the meantime, here are some of my suggestions for keeping your closet one glamorous step ahead of the weather.

Rebecca Taylor white lace trench. You can’t let a little rain get in the way of your mad style. Available at Bergdorfs Online.

Hunter wellies. These are really a must have. Wellies go just as well with a dress as they do with jeans. I love the Ladies Argyll Hunter boots.

Mike and Chris hoodies: they make cozy look cool. Find a bunch at Azalea online. Or check the selection at Barneys.

Hat from Cha Cha’s House of ill repute: if you’re going to have to tolerate hat head you may as well have a hat that you don’t feel the need to take off. You’ll have all the rain drops dying to fall on your chic head. I am partial to the Hourglass.

Gap ballet flat: because all though you want to, it’s not time to wear those flip flops yet. Our favorites are the red and the black patent. http://www.gap.com

Anna Corinna city tote in glazed white or black: Not exactly waterproof, but glazed enough to take a little moisture without spotting. March is no time for suede. Check out Zoe online for a good selection.

Waterproof mascara: when it rains in March it really rains, and the last thing you need is to look like you should have striped fur, sharp claws and your black nose in a garbage can. (that’s a racoon for all you never leave the city girls.) Various brands at Sephora.com.

Silver shoes: when the sun isn’t shining let a little metallic brighten up the gloomy skies. There are so many great ones out there, but I am particularly feeling some of the styles from Miu Miu and Costume National.

Umbrella from Oilily- keeps you dry, fits in your purse and with all those dazzling colors, helps you stand out in a sea of black. Visit Oilily at the Chesnut Hill Mall or at 32 Newbury Street. in Boston.

You’ll look so fierce, and feel so cozy and dry, you’ll be singing “rain rain, stay stay.”

Wow, did the weather ever play into our hands this week. Just as this story broke, so did the one on every weatherman’s lips about the coming storm. I wish I had gone right out after reading this and got the wellies, the Oilily umbrella, and that rockin’ Hourglass hat from Cha Cha’s.

When the weather clears up, that Rebecca Taylor trench is the perfect thing to wear to a certain someone’s office, with stilettos, a dab of Joe Malone and little else underneath!
