Don't Miss - BU, MassArt and SMFA Open Studios

Don't Miss - BU, MassArt and SMFA Open Studios

Tomorrow, Saturday, November 8, Boston University, MassArt and SMFA will host a collaborative, cross-institution Open Studios event. Don’t miss this rare chance to peek inside the busy studios of MFA students and learn about their works in progress. Here is the link to register (encouraged but not required).

This student-driven celebration highlights collaboration—that essential 21st century skill—and honors the energy and potential that emerging artists bring to the region.

There is nothing quite as gratifying as supporting artists who are just beginning their journey.

These artists are attending some of New England’s top art schools, learning from working artists, attempting everything, crafting new narratives, unafraid, un-jaded.

Their diverse backgrounds, mediums, and studio practices will leave you feeling inspired about the future art scene in Boston and beyond.

S. Billie Mandle, Professor and Chair of the Photography Department at Massachusetts College of Art and Design shared, “This is the second year we have held these MFA open studios. It helps to foster community across our institutions—for students to come together as artists. Sometimes Boston can feel siloed by institutions, and this is a chance to think past that. It is a wonderful chance for the larger arts community of Boston to see and meet the young artists who are getting their starts here.”

The students are so excited!” shared Josephine Halvorson, artist, Professor of Art, and Chair of Graduate Studies in Painting at Boston University since 2016. “Open Studios offers our Boston area MFA students a chance to be in dialogue with one another: to find correspondences within their work, education, and lives. It also invites the wider arts community to glimpse the innovation and creative growth taking place inside our institutions. Graduate fine art students are more courageous and dedicated than ever, and Open Studios is a time to celebrate them and the art they so fearlessly make.”
